Honeymoon in Genève, Switzerland

I can't quite believe it is over.  I am still wondering is the wedding really over?  Surely not, as it is just the beginning of a married life.

To start off our first few days of being married, to Europe we go for our honeymoon. Planning on where to and what to was not as easy as our previous travels.  This is our honeymoon so it has to be extra special.  It was supposed to be somewhere sunny and salty but due to some reasons we ended up planning for Switzerland and France.  This is not our second option but a plan B and I had no regrets as it has been Riggi's long time dream to be in Switzerland.

We were surprised upon arrival as it was freezing.  Then, we realized we had the wrong outfits for the whole trip.  We had checked the weather report beforehand and it was around 22 to 24 degrees celsius. Lesson learned never trust the weather report few weeks back but to check it again a day before the flight.  This mistake will not stop us from exploring Switzerland.

Genève is the second most populous city in Switzerland after Zürich.  It is one of Europe's most priciest and it is indeed.  I had the most expensive water bottle and McDonald's big tasty in my life.

The Alpine region, conventionally referred as the Swiss Alps, represents a major natural feature of the country.  It covers 65% of Switzerland's area making it the most alpine countries.  The Swiss Alps was one of the best view during the plane travel to Geneva, I was glad I always choose the window seat.

Jet d'Eau (Water Jet) is one of the City's most famous landmarks and one of the tallest fountain in the world. Situated at the point where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhône.  Five hundred litres of water per second are jetted to an altitude of 460 feet by two 500kw pumps.  It can be best seen through walking around Lake Genève while enjoying the parks and promenades of the city.  The fountain became the symbol of strength, ambition and vitality of Geneva and Switzerland.

The large complex of marble buldings that make up the Palais des Nations (Palace of Nations) is the European headquarters of the United Nations.  It is the second largest of the four office sites of the UN, second to the headquarters in New York City.

Allée des drapeaux (Flags Way) The flags in front of the UN office site are the 193 UN member states.

Broken chair is a 39feet high constructed of 5.5 tons of wood.  It depicts a giant chair with a broken leg and stands across the street from the Palace of Nations.  It symbolizes opposition to land mines and cluster bombs.  We took a tram and took us less than 5minutes ride to United Nations.  It was raining so hard that day and chilly.  We couldn't stand being there for long.

You would not miss walking through Geneva's old town wherein you would see a patchwork of art.  In French, old town is called vieille ville.  It is an ancient maze of small streets, worthy of a picture squares, filled with homey cafés, museums, galleries and historical sights.  Most of the old buildings are adorned with beautiful masonry like you are whisked a thousand years back into the old time Geneva.

We headed to climb the Cathédrale Saint Pierre where we enjoyed the panoramic view of the Old Town.  Temple de St-Pierre, today belonging to the Reformed Protestant Church of Geneva.

It was Riggi's long time dream to see Switzerland and the prospect of a honeymoon in the so called "land of milk and money" was enough to scare us of how expensive it is.  Luckily, we found a grocers nearby the hotel where we purchased most of our food to eat.  I'm not blogging to scrape more about Genèva's wealthy facade but there are a lot of other things to be happy about being there.  After all, Switzerland isn't called the best country in the world for nothing.  Merci, beaucoup Switzerland.

I learned a lot from travelling, it leaves me speechless seeing a different world from mine.  It always made me realize that what a tiny place I occupy in this world and there is a whole lot out there for me to see.

"Oh the places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss

I hope you'll find yourself in a different world sometime.

Here is our travel vid edited by the husband himself, enjoy guys.
